Centr and Hyrox Roll Out Competition Turf at World Championships
Custom-engineered surface becomes global standard as fitness racing eyes massive growth

Hyrox made its biggest equipment play yet at the 2025 World Championships in Chicago, debuting the Centr x Hyrox Official Competition Perform Turf that will standardize racing surfaces worldwide. The move signals how seriously the hybrid fitness racing category is taking infrastructure as participation explodes.
Chris Hemsworth's Centr partnered with Hyrox to develop the 16mm precision pile turf specifically for sled pushes and functional movements. The patent-pending surface will replace inconsistent flooring across Hyrox venues, creating uniform race conditions from local competitions to world championships.
The standardization effort reflects Hyrox's rapid scaling challenges. The brand saw 250,000 athletes compete during the 2023-24 season and expects 650,000 participants this year, with projections hitting one million by 2026. Consistent equipment and surfaces become critical when managing that volume across global venues.
"This is Hyrox's carbon-plated shoe moment," said Andrew Sugerman, CEO of Centr. "The playing field is now engineered for peak performance. The Official Competition Perform Turf will be a game-changer for the sport, offering global consistency, maximum durability and just the right amount of resistance."
The turf launch extends beyond race venues into training facilities. Hyrox Performance Centers and Training Clubs worldwide will install the competition surface alongside Centr equipment, allowing athletes to train on identical conditions they'll face on race day. The home gym market represents another revenue opportunity, with the turf available for personal training spaces.
Gold's Gym already brought the first North American Hyrox Performance Center to its Dallas-area location, while 380 UK gyms now feature over 5,800 pieces of Centr x Hyrox equipment. The gym partnership strategy helps Hyrox build training infrastructure without massive capital investment while giving traditional fitness chains differentiated programming.
Douglas Gremmen, global head of 365 at Hyrox, positioned the Gold's partnership as just the beginning. The brand sees training facility development as essential for long-term growth, especially as it courts fitness newcomers alongside serious competitors.
The equipment standardization play comes as fitness racing emerges as a legitimate category bridging functional training and competition. Hyrox's infrastructure investments suggest the brand believes consistent, professional-grade experiences will be key to converting casual participants into dedicated athletes as the sport scales toward mainstream adoption.
