Life after sports

Struggling to find purpose and structure

4 Ways to Not Lose Your Mind

If you are currently an athlete in college or hung up the cleats in the last year or so. There’s a possibility you don’t know what to do after being in athletics for such a long time.

In college, from the time you wake up until you go to bed, your day is full of class, tutoring, workouts, practice, film, community service and more. There’s hardly ever a free moment when it comes to college athletics.

Once the sports career ends. You transition to a new path whether that’s a job or starting a business. Outside of the typical 9-5 hours, you’ll suddenly have a lot of free time, which can feel overwhelming at first.

Here’s 4 activities to fill in some of that free time:

  1. Keep working out: Go to the gym at least 3x a week. Focus on daily cardio and see it as a health benefit rather than a punishment.

  2. Adult sports league: If your missing your sport, there’s plenty of adult leagues in every city for you to join.

  3. New athletic hobbies with friends: Try something like golf, tennis, or pickleball. You’ll be driven to compete with your friends.

  4. Side project: Work on something you find interesting and challenges your creativity. This could be a newsletter, coaching, or even cooking something new each week.
